Bobby Fischer Dead at 64.
Here’s the most recent AP story.
As was mentioned here back in November, Bobby Fischer was in bad health for quite a while. He passed away Yesterday, Thursday, Jan 17, of kidney failure. He was in hospital for a while, but went home a couple months ago, where he passed away. He was 64.
I can’t believe we beat the USCF, FIDE, Chessbase on pushing this out. Where are the breaking reporters? In the blogging world, of course. I saw it on Jrobi’s blog and Chessloser’s blog, way before it made the “major” chess websites. And of course Susan Polgar had close ties to him, and recalls her Fischer960 games with him.
Despite what your feelings and opinions are regarding Fischer, this is a sad day in the world of chess.

yeah, i saw it on the news, when i went to update my blog, i saw that yurokewl mentioned it in my comments yesterday…
He lived as many years as there are squares on the board.
It would be a sadder day if he’d been active. I can’t help but feel the chess world has lost very little.
L.E.P. - I agree. I had always hoped he would came out of seclusion to play Kasparov, Anand, or anyone, but it would have cost someone a *lot* of $$$.
A great chess player, perhaps the greatest, but very unsuccessful as a human being.
Have a safe trip to Fla! …Rich
