World’s Youngest Chess Player?
Competing at age 4, could young Tanishka Kotia be the World’s youngest competitive player? From her website -
“Tanishka Kotia became World youngest chess player by participating in District Open Chess Tournament held at Gurgaon’s Chiranjeev Bharati School from 20/07/2007 to 22/07/2007. The tournament was organized under the aegis of Gurgaon District Chess Association where 311 junior players participated. In the five rounds held Tanishka won two rounds, drew one and lost two matches against the competitors of a much higher age, and secured second position in girls in under-7 category.
A class nursery student of DPS, Sector-45, Tanishka has inherited the passion for the game from her father who has also been a national level chess player. The proud father Ajit Kotia, Deputy Director (IT) in Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. Shares his emotions in a line “She used to observe me play chess but I never knew that she would be so inclined to the game and will make us proud” The little champion doesn’t know the technicalities of the game and where it is taking her. All she realizes as of now is that she loves to play with her father.”
